Solang Valley

Solang is a wide grassy bowl between Manali and the Rohtang road, roughly 13 km up the valley. In summer it is open meadow with ropeway rides, zorbing and paragliding launches; in winter the same slopes hold snow and become the closest thing to a ski field near Manali.

Most people come for the activities rather than the sightseeing, and the drive itself is part of it — the road climbs steadily with the Beas below and the Dhauladhar ridge ahead. It works well as a half-day out from town, and pairs naturally with the Atal Tunnel drive if you start early.
